The counter in the masthead runs at the rate in the Global Carbon Budget 2025: fossil CO₂ emissions projected for 2025, 38.1 billion tonnes, about 1,200 tonnes a second. The reading of CO₂ in the air is the latest monthly mean from theNOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory: monthly mean CO₂ at Mauna Loa Observatory, updated each time the site is rebuilt.
